Level 1
Level 1 is for beginning & continuing students. It introduces fundamental
principles of alignment and breath work, and covers primary poses and yoga basics.
It places emphasis on the standing poses, and on stretching and strengthening
the legs, back and shoulders. This class can be helpful for anyone with
back, neck, knee or shoulder difficulties.
Level 1-2
Level 1-2 is is for continuing students who have completed Level I.
The emphasis is on building endurance and introducing Level II standing
poses. This class is also suitable for students who have practiced other styles
of yoga besides the Anusara method, but is not suitable for those who have
never studied yoga before.
Level 2
Level 2 is for continuing students who have completed
at least two Yoga 1 sessions. Level 2 introduces a more
advanced form of Sun Salutation and focuses on refining the
standing poses. It also introduces revolving poses, basic
sitting poses, back-bending poses, and shoulder stand
using Anusara Yoga principles of alignment. We
focus on upper body alignment and strengthening, in preparation
for inversions. This class also introduces ½ handstand and
½ forearm stand.
Level 3
Level 3 is for continuing students who have completed
at least 3 sessions of Level 2, and who have the instructor's
permission. Level 3 focuses on refining
poses studied in Level 1 & 2 and introduces handstand
and forearm stand at the wall. More vigorous Vinyasa (yoga
flows) flows are introduced along with more revolving
poses.
Yoga for Men
Reasonably fit men tend to be stronger than women, but
significantly less flexible. Deep stretches to large muscle
groups are easiest once the body is well warmed-up,
especially in Fall and Winter.
We will learn vigorous yoga flows with which to begin
each class. We will explore many of the same poses
covered in Level 1 and 1-2 classes, and will also
explore yogic breathing and relaxation techniques.
Gentle Yoga
Gentle Yoga combines warm-ups, gentle and restorative postures,
emphasis on alignment, deep breathing techniques, and guided deep
relaxation to reduce stress and increase movement and vitality.
Perfect for students who prefer a class less vigorous than Yoga I,
Gentle Yoga is also ideal for students experiencing illness, injury,
or chronic pain and who need more individual attention. This class can
be helpful for students with back, neck, knee or shoulder difficulties.
Prenatal Yoga
This class is for women who are at least 12 weeks pregnant.
Dads-to-be are also welcome to attend. The
class focuses on modified poses to stretch and strengthen
the changing body of the pregnant student. Emphasis is
given to alignment, postural detail and relaxation. It
is appropriate for both new and continuing yoga students. Please
provide written permission to attend the class from your
midwife or doctor prior to the first class.
